Central Kampala Camp

There isn’t a formal, government-designated refugee camp in central Kampala; instead, refugees live in informal settlements like Kisenyi II and Namuwongo, or with support from organizations near the Old Kampala Police Station after arrival.

Bidi Bidi Refugee Camp

Since 2023

Bidi Bidi, located in Uganda’s Yumbe District, is one of the largest refugee settlements in the world, established in 2016 to host a massive influx of South Sudanese refugees fleeing civil war.

Kiryandongo Camp

Since 2023

Major refugee settlements in western Uganda include Nakivale, which is one of the oldest and largest, and Kyaka II. Other settlements like Kyangwali are also located in the western region, hosting refugees primarily from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Burundi, among other nationalities.
